Turn your carbon data into investor-grade climate action. Science-Based Targets Mastery: Turning Carbon Data into Climate Action is a practitioner-built program that guides you from a robust GHG inventory to SBTi-ready targets and the roadmaps to deliver them. You’ll decode SBTi criteria, compare target-setting methods (Absolute Contraction vs SDA), and translate emissions drivers into feasible, financeable decarbonization plans aligned with a 1.5°C pathway. Designed for sustainability leaders, finance partners, and strategy teams, the course blends clear explanations with mini-examples, governance best practices, and submission-ready documentation tips. You’ll learn how to prioritize Scope 3, engage suppliers at scale, and avoid common pitfalls that stall validation. Finish with an approval readiness checklist, disclosure alignment guidance (CDP, ISSB/IFRS S2, SEC), and a communications framework to build internal alignment and external credibility. Whether you’re preparing your first SBTs or recalibrating for net-zero, this course equips you with the methods, language, and tools to set ambitious targets—and hit them.

Science-Based Targets Mastery: Turning Carbon Data into Climate Action equips sustainability, finance, procurement, and strategy leaders to convert greenhouse gas inventories into credible, 1.5°C-aligned targets and executable roadmaps. The course begins by framing what Science Based Targets are, why they matter for corporate strategy, and how the SBTi’s governance, sector guidance, scopes, and timelines shape ambition and accountability. You will refresh essential carbon accounting concepts from the GHG Protocol—scopes 1, 2, and 3; market- vs. location-based reporting; boundaries; base years; and data quality—so your inventory becomes a decision-ready dataset rather than a static report. Common readiness pitfalls are highlighted early to help you avoid delays and redesigns later in the SBTi process.

With foundations set, the course decodes SBTi criteria and validation requirements, clarifying coverage thresholds, 1.5°C alignment for scopes 1 and 2, scope 3 expectations, near-term vs. long-term net-zero claims, and FLAG considerations for land-related emissions. You will compare target-setting methods—Absolute Contraction and Sectoral Decarbonization Approach (SDA)—and understand intensity vs. absolute targets, activity metrics, and scope 2 electricity market dynamics. From there, you will translate footprints into targets by preparing baselines and recalculation policies, linking emissions drivers to levers like energy efficiency, renewable electricity procurement, fuel switching, product and logistics redesign, and supplier engagement. Practical tools such as MAC curves, feasibility screens, and SBTi-compliant target language help you set ambition grounded in economics and timelines.

Implementation is addressed through strategy integration, multi-year decarbonization roadmaps, capex planning, internal carbon pricing, and renewable electricity strategies across PPAs, RECs, and on-site options, with attention to additionality. You will align accountability mechanisms—KPIs, OKRs, incentives—and embed risk management and scenario planning consistent with a 1.5°C pathway. Governance and disclosure modules map targets to CDP, ISSB/IFRS S2, SEC proposals, and voluntary reports, while reinforcing claims integrity and effective stakeholder communications for investors, customers, employees, and regulators. The pathway to SBTi approval is made explicit, covering commitments, documentation, fees, validation timelines, reviewer interactions, and post-approval maintenance including recalculation triggers. Quizzes throughout solidify learning, and a final survey supports reflection and next steps—so your organization can turn carbon data into measurable, validated climate action.
